Excise Comr reviews functioning of deptt

Amid dry, hot and humid weather, hundreds of people including men, women and children mostly bare foot visited the revered suffi Saint Shrine Sheikh Noor-Ud-Wali popularly known as Nund Resh at Charar-e- Sharief in Budgam district on Sunday for prayers to seek rainfall to end the drought season in Kashmir valley. Jammu/April,8:  Revenue to the tune of Rs. 153.64 crore has been realized by the Excise Department during the month of March 2016-17 in comparison to Rs. 130.51 crore realized during the corresponding period  last fiscal thus registering a growth of 17.65% ,this was informed during a meeting chaired by Excise Commissioner, Mohammad Javed Khan here Wednesday.

It was also informed that at  Toll Post Lakhanpur there has been an increase of Rs. 15.76 crore (34.82%) in revenue realization during the month of March,2017 while a total fine amounting to Rs. 5.15 lakh was realized on account of violations of Distillery Rules.

On the front of Eradication and Enforcement activity it  was apprised  that during the March,2017, approximately fifteen tonnes of Lahan was destroyed by the various Excise Teams in Jammu division by undertaking 460 raids in which 17 persons were arrested and fine to the tune of Rs.5.84 lakh was collected in various violations.

While acknowledging   the efforts made by all wings of the Department in collection of Taxes/Duties Excise Commissioner  stressed to maintain the momentum in current financial year he  stressed on  use of CCTVs and other means for  monitoring of the Bottling Plants, Breweries and Distilleries and supervise manufacturing process.

Khan also appreciated the comprehensive drive launched by the department to arrest the menace of illegal smuggling of liquor, illicit distillation and other violations of the J&K Excise Act, 1958. .

He directed the department functionaries to chart a roadmap for implementation of Corpus Social Responsibility Fund and to launch a mass contact program for spreading awareness among masses and youth against drug addiction and drunk driving.
