PM Modi lashes out at Opposition parties for stalling OBC panel Bill in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, Apr 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today blasted the Opposition parties for stalling the passage of the Socially and Educationally Backward Classes Bill in the Rajya Sabha and urged the BJP lawmakers to impress upon the Opposition MPs to understand the gravity of such legislation.
Addressing a group of OBC MPs of the saffron outfit, who called on him here to thank and compliment the Prime Minister for steering such a move to constitutional status to the new Commission for OBC communities, Mr Modi expressed surprise why such a strategy was adopted in the Upper House.
According to BJP sources, the Prime Minister said he failed to understand why the Constitutional Amendment Bill was stalled in the Rajya Sabha when there have been persistent demand for the same as well as recommendations of various parliamentary committees.
“Moreover, the Prime Minister said several OBC Members of Parliament have met him and urged him to bring this Constitutional Amendment,” the source said.
Mr Modi also said “Such negative approach used by Opposition parties to deny the OBC people their rights is regrettable”, the source said adding the BJP MPs should try to impress upon the lawmakers from Opposition parties on the importance of such legislation.
