Srinagar/April,8: Upping the ante at Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti over her brother and PDP candidate Tasaduq Mufti’s appeal for postponement of bypoll in Anantnag Lok Sabha seat, main opposition National Conference (NC) Monday said the statement indicates state government’s abject failure.
“Tassaduq’s statement is an indictment of his sister @MehboobaMufti’s government and its abject failure. How can the BJP not see this?” NC Working president Omar Abdullah wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
Abdullah, who is also the former chief minister of the state, also sought Ms Mehbooba’s resignation if the bypoll in Anantnag parliamentary constituency was postponed.
“EC is well within its powers to postpone or countermand Anantnag election but if so @MehboobaMufti must reign and Governor should take charge,” Abdullah said in another tweet.
Abdullah was reacting to Tasaduq Mufti’s statement that PDP has urged Election Commission (EC) to postpone the byelection in Anantnag parliamentary constituency scheduled on April 12 in view of violence yesterday.
“The situation is not conducive for polls in the valley. Bypolls for Anantnag Lok Sabha seats should be postponed in the wake of large scale violence that erupted during the polling for Budgam-Srinagar parliamentary seat yesterday,” Mufti, who is the son of late PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, told reporters here Monday.
