Srinagar/April,8: A government school was set on fire in central Kashmir district of Badgam by people opposing polling in Srinagar Parliamentary constituency tomorrow.
Official sources said the authorities had set up a polling station in a government school at Yarigund, Magam, in Badgam district in Srinagar constituency.
They said the school, which remained closed after government announced due to inclement weather condition till April 9, was set on fire by some unknown persons late last night.
Polling in the constituency, spread over Srinagar, Badgam and Ganderbal districts , will be held today (Sunday) .
Former Chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah of National Conference (NC) and ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Nazir Ahmad Khan are among the candidates seeking mandate from the constituency.
The authorities have already shifted over a dozen polling station in the constituency though opposition NC has lodged strong protest with Electoral Officer against shifting of polling station from populated areas.
All the polling stations in the constituency have already been sensitive and hyper sensitive.
