Srinagar/April,8: Panic gripped among People’s Democratic Party workers when gunshots were heard near the venue of an election function in Achabal area of Anantnag district of south Kashmir on Saturday.
Reports said that PDP workers busy in organizing an election function in the area and when of the activist was addressing the workers, sudden gun shots made the scene scary and PDP workers started running helter and skelter.
Eyewitnesses said government forces immediately cordoned off the area and a search operation was launched to nab the militants.
Reports said that Paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers on Saturday resorted to aerial firing to disperse protesters in Beerwah area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district, triggering shutdown.
Witnesses said that youth assembled in Beerwah market and pelted stones on CRPF troopers who were moving towards a polling station. As the stone-pelting intensified, troopers fired in air to make way out of the market.
Following the clashes, shopkeepers downed their shutters and chaos descended on the whole market.
In Khanyar area of Srinagar city a mysterious blast created panic on Saturday. The mysterious blast occurred inside Government Girls Higher Secondary School, which is a designated polling station. However, no damage was reported from the spot. A police official said that nothing happened inside the school as it may the sound of a fire cracker.
