Srinagar, Apr 9:   One civilan was killed and five others injured in clashes between security forces and protesters as  trends of  a very low turn out were seen in most of the parts of  Srinagar parliamentary constituency going to polls today .

The BSF opened fire in Pakharpora near Charar-e-Sharif area to disperse a stone pelting crowd and one civilian was killed and five injured in clashes. Violent incidents were reported particularly from areas of  central Kashmir’s district Budgam where angered youth  pelted stones on polling booths in the wee hours, a police official said.

The polling in majority of the areas was even below 1 per cent in the first two hours. In Kangan and Ganderbal also trends of low turn out were witnessed. Two polling stations had to be abandoned because of heavy stone pelting in the Charar-e-Sharif area. Meanwhile unconfirmed reports said the condition of two of those injured is critical.

The  stone-pelting incidents were also reported from Ganderbal district of central Kashmir also a part of Srinagar Parliamentary constituency .

Meanwhile, normal life was badly hit in  all the three poll-bound districts Srinagar,Budgam and Ganderbal in view of the shut down call called by joint separatist leadership asking the people to boycott the lok sabha bye  elections .

Most of the shops, fuel stations and other business establishments in the districts of Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal were shut, while public transport was off the roads, the official said.
