Srinagar/April,7: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, Friday conducted an extensive tour of the Srinagar City to take stock of the situation arising out of torrential rainfall.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Commissioner SMC, SP Traffic, officers and engineers of PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control and other concerned Departments accompanied the Div Com.
During his visit, the Divisional Commissioner visited Jehangir Chowk, Saria Bala, Gogji Bagh and Peerbagh areas of Srinagar City to take first hand appraisal of the situation which rose due to incessant rains.
The Div Com was briefed about the measures being taken to tackle water logging and preparedness to deal with any kind of exigency. It was informed that SMC has deployed dewatering pumps, besides fire tenders have been put in operation in various water-logged areas of the City.
It was given out that I&FC Department has deployed its men and machinery in City and has distributed sand bags in flood prone areas to augment embankments along the river banks. The Div Com directed the concerned to ensure additional dewatering pumps along with deployment of men and machinery at all the vital locations in the Srinagar City.
Later, the Div Com visited various flood prone areas of Pampore to take a detailed stock of situation arising out of heavy downpour there. He was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner, Pulwama, Muneer-ul-Islam.
