Srinagar/ April, 17: Seeking immediate intervention in Kashmir situation, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), former Union Minister Prof Saifuddin Soz alleged that more than 100 youths got killed and 3000 others were wounded in security force and police actions.
“ I feel constrained to bring to your notice the fact that the general run of Kashmiris feel that while human rights violations have continued unabated during the recent unrest in Kashmir, the NHRC has not taken any notice of these atrocities in which more than 100 youth got killed through firing by forces and about 3000 boys and girls got injured, especially their eyes were extremely impaired through the pellets”, senior Congress leader alleged in his memorandum to Commission.
While I am writing this memorandum to you, there is news that two more young persons fell to the bullets, he said in the memorandum a copy of which was released to press Tuesday.
Prof Soz said “I would make an earnest plea with you for taking a serious notice of the bloodshed in Kashmir.
“I would in particular, request you to take notice of an ugly event of high handedness and lawlessness in which a section of the Army (reportedly Rastriya Rifles) indulged on April 9”, he said.
Prof Soz said one Farooq Ahmad Dar was tied to the bonnet of a jeep as a human shield for eight hours in Budgam after which he was paraded in 9 villages to terrorize the youth there. The victim continued to tell the Jawans that after casting his vote that day, he was returning to his home while he was put to the torture by the Army Jawans.
It is a pathetic case of torture against an innocent civilian. Incidentally, Dar has no record of his ever having committed any offence in his life which would need the system to bring him to justice.
I hope the Commission would take serious notice of the atrocities that are being committed by the forces against the civilians in Kashmir, he said.
I would also earnestly request the Commission to take people of Kashmir into confidence while taking action on the said extremely unruly behaviour of the Army, he alleged.

New Delhi, Apr 12: The National Human Rights Commission has issued notices to the Chief Secretary, DGP, Government of Tamil Nadu and Superintendent of Police, Tirupur to produce reports within two weeks on a widely reported incident of police excess on a group of people of 300, who were protesting against the opening of a liquor vend in their residential area.
Reportedly, the police started indiscriminately beating them with sticks due to which more than 20 people were seriously injured yesterday.
A senior police officer also slapped a woman and hit another one while chasing them.
The Commission has observed that it appears that the police took law into their hands by exceeding their power in resorting to indiscriminate beating of the protestors.
In fact a senior officer himself had gone to the extent of beating women who were standing helpless and defenseless.
