Srinagar: The train service has been resumed today after remaining suspended for two days for security reasons in the Kashmir valley, where curfew and strike crippled life yesterday.
Both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference and the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) had called for strike on the first death anniversary of Burhan Wani of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) yesterday, when authorities had imposed restrictions in most areas in Srinagar and south Kashmir. However, on July 7 service as a precautionary measure.
”We have resumed the train service in the valley following direction by police and civil authorities,” a Railway official told UNI today.
Rail service has been resumed today between Srinagar-Badgam in the central Kashmir and Baramulla in north Kashmir, he said, adding that the train service from Badgam-Srinagar and Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu has also been restored. All trains are running as per schedule, he said.
”We are acting on the directions of the state police and authorities, who are taking the decision to suspend or resume train service, keeping in view the security and safety of the passengers and railway property,” he added.
Railway property suffered damage worth crores of rupees in the past due to violence. However last year, the service remained suspended for six months due to summer unrest.

Srinaga: Life returned to normal after remaining crippled for two days in Kashmir due to curfew and restrictions imposed in view of apprehensions of law and order problems on the first death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani yesterday.
However, business and other activities remained paralysed for the third successive day today in Shopian town, where clashes between protestors and security forces were reported in the morning today.
Officials told UNI that there were no restrictions in any part of Kashmir valley though security forces remained deployed in strength to maintain law and order.
All road blocks have been removed by the security forces and shops and business establishments, which remain open on Sundays, reopened this morning in Srinagar.
Traffic was plying on all routes, including in the down town and Shehar-e-Khas (SeK), where people were confined to their homes for two days. Security forces and State Police personnel, who were deployed around the historic Jamia Masjid, have also been withdrawn.
All business establishments, which remain open on Sundays, were working normally in the civil lines, including historic Lal Chowk, the nerve-centre of the summer capital, Budshah chowk, Hari Singh High Street (HSHS), Regal Chowk, Moulana Azad Road and Residency Road. Traffic was plying normally on all routes.
The 3-km-long weekly Sunday market also witnessed good number of customers, purchasing items, including cloths, from vendors, who have set up their stalls from Radio Kashmir (RK), Srinagar, crossing to Hari Singh High Streets (HSHS), including historic Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the city.
