According to a statement issued here, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) received a written complaint alleging that PSI Karanjeet Singh, Investigating officer (IO) of Case FIR No. 65/2026 registered at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh Srinagar through his accomplice namely Ravi Jee Bhat, Sub-Inspector P/S Ram Munshi Bagh Srinagar, had demanded illegal gratification from the complainant for closing the case as “Not Admitted” between the parties.

On receipt of the complaint, the ACB conducted verification of the allegations, which prima facie established the demand for illegal gratification.

Accordingly, Case FIR No. 12/2026 under Section 7, Section 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 & Section 61(2)BNS was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar and investigation was taken up.

During the course of investigation a trap team was constituted. The team caught the accused public servant namely Ravi Jee Bhat, Sub Inspector Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh Srinagar red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs.15000 on behalf of IO of the case PSI Karanjeet Singh from the complainant.

The bribe amount was recovered from the possession of the accused in the presence of independent witnesses and he was taken into custody in accordance with law, and his Co-conspirator PSI Karanjeet Singh was subsequently arrested by the Bureau.

Further investigation is in progress.

Directs executing agencies to focus on maintenance, avoid delays in execution

JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 01: Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar today convened a meeting to review the progress of ongoing projects being executed by NHAI, NHIDCL, Beacon/Sampark and PMGSY across the Division.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Rakesh Minhas; Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Ashok Kumar Sharma; Deputy Commissioners of Jammu Division; Joint Director, Geology & Mining, Jammu; senior officers of NHAI, Sampark, PMGSY Jammu, PWD Jammu and NHIDCL; besides other concerned officers, who participated in person and through virtual mode.

The Deputy Commissioners and senior officers of the concerned departments and executing agencies briefed the chair about the current status and progress of ongoing projects in the areas of their respective districts, besides apprising him of issues and bottlenecks requiring intervention.

The Divisional Commissioner undertook a detailed review of roads, bridges, tunnels, four-laning works, drainage and other connectivity work, with focus on physical progress, financial issues, land acquisition, compensation, RoW, forest and wildlife clearances, utility shifting and other field-level constraints.

The Divisional Commissioner sought detailed feedback on the progress of different road sections along the National Highway from Jammu to Kathua, Udhampur, Ramban, Banihal besides, Akhnoor to Poonch and other areas. He directed the executing agencies to expedite   improvement of riding surfaces, rectification of damaged/vulnerable stretches and strengthening of road approaches, while ensuring strict adherence to prescribed safety and quality standards.

Reviewing tunnel and four-laning projects, the Divisional Commissioner directed the concerned agencies to accelerate the pace and adhere strictly to committed timelines. He emphasized adequate deployment of manpower, machinery and safety measures, particularly at vulnerable stretches and construction sites.

The meeting also reviewed compensation and collateral damage cases, including cases involving affected structures, RoW and slide-affected areas. The Divisional Commissioner directed the concerned agencies to verify the relevant records and expedite eligible payments and pending cases, while ensuring proper follow-up of matters pending before courts and competent authorities.

Issues concerning forest and wildlife clearances, compensation afforestation and mitigation measures were also reviewed. The concerned agencies were directed to maintain close coordination with the Forest and Wildlife authorities and complete all statutory requirements without delay.

The Divisional Commissioner expressed concern over delays in certain works despite availability of funds and awarded contracts. He directed the executing agencies to mobilize adequate resources, increase the pace of work and fix responsibility for avoidable delays. He also stressed regular field inspections and immediate rectification of potholes, damaged riding surfaces and sliding/vulnerable locations.

Reviewing drainage and utility works in market/shopping areas, the Divisional Commissioner directed execution in manageable stretches in coordination with the local administration so that public movement and business activities are not disrupted.

Emphasizing effective inter-departmental coordination, the Divisional Commissioner directed all agencies to maintain regular communication with the Deputy Commissioners and concerned departments and resolve issues through direct coordination rather than prolonged correspondence. He asked the agencies to submit issue-wise action plans with definite timelines and ensure regular monitoring of progress.

The Divisional Commissioner reiterated that no avoidable delay In critical infrastructure projects would be tolerated and directed all stakeholders to work in close coordination to ensure timely completion of projects and improved connectivity across Jammu Division.

Officials told GNS that one Ghulam Ahmed Ganie, son of Ghulam Mohammad Ganie, resident of Bunpora Gogjigund, aged about 65-66 years, received an electric shock at his residence.

He was immediately shifted to District Hospital Ganderbal, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Lieutenant Governor reviews security scenario in J&K

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 01: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today chaired a high-level review meeting with senior officials and assessed the security apparatus and strategic preparedness across the Union Territory of Jammu Kashmir.

The meeting was attended by Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Nalin Prabhat, DGP; Chandraker Bharti, Principal Secretary Home Department; S.J.M.Gillani, Special DG Coordination PHQ; Dr Mandeep K. Bhandari, Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor; M.K. Sinha, ADGP, CID; Sujit Kumar, IGP Kashmir; Tejinder Singh, IGP Jammu; Ms. Sarah Rizvi, IGP, Crime Branch; Divisional Commissioners; DIGs and other senior officials.

The Lieutenant Governor instructed the senior officials to maintain sustained pressure on terror networks and enhance ground-level operational synergy, calling for an aggressive area domination strategy to decisively eliminate emerging threats.

Emphasizing that public trust is vital to the security apparatus, the Lieutenant Governor directed police officials to foster direct engagement with the public, designating specific hours for citizen interaction and grievance redressal.

Reviewing the functioning at the police station level, the Lieutenant Governor underscored the necessity of transparent, impartial and sensitive complaint handling, directing officers to conduct investigations with absolute professionalism.

“The police must maintain a strong and continuous engagement with the public. Every genuine grievance must be addressed with sensitivity and every investigation must be conducted with absolute fairness, transparency and impartiality,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

The Lieutenant Governor commended the Jammu Kashmir Police and security agencies for their effective action against drug smugglers. He has directed officials to intensify operations against narco-terror networks and enhance monitoring of emerging digital threats. Highlighting the emerging challenges in the cyber and social media space, the Lieutenant Governor directed for close monitoring of social media platforms to counter anti-national propaganda, digital misinformation and online blackmailing.

During the meeting, the DGP and Principal Secretary Home apprised the Lieutenant Governor of the overall security scenario in Jammu Kashmir. IGPs, DIGs and Divisional Commissioners briefed the Lieutenant Governor on the security situation in their respective areas, anti-terror operations, law and order, drug smuggling and other emerging challenges.

The meeting also held comprehensive and detailed deliberations on a wide range of other critical issues.

The Lieutenant Governor instructed all officers to maintain heightened operational vigilance, seamless inter-agency coordination and a proactive approach to safeguarding peace and maintaining law and order in the UT.

During the interaction, the Chief Minister enquired about the prevailing security scenario and law and order situation across the Valley. He extended his best wishes to the IGP for a successful and effective tenure.

The accident involved a Tata mobile bearing registration number JK16C-7273 and a truck bearing registration number JK07-2008.

No casualties or injuries were reported in the accident, officials said. Further details are awaited.

The case emanated from a complaint alleging that the accused, in conspiracy with each other, attempted to grab land and obtain building permission from the SMC by using forged documents. Accordingly, a probe was ordered and during the course of investigation, the allegations were substantiated. The investigation revealed fraudulent documentation, misrepresentation of material facts, and alleged misuse of official position. The investigation has been closed as “Proved” and the chargesheet has been filed before the competent court for judicial determination.

Advises fruit truck drivers to strictly adhere to prescribed load limits on National Highway

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 31: In a significant move aimed at facilitating the economical and hassle-free transportation of horticulture produce, particularly apples, to various domestic mandis and international destinations, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg today urged fruit growers, traders and other stakeholders to make greater use of railway goods and freight services.

The Divisional Commissioner was chairing a meeting convened to review the utilization of railway freight services for the transportation of horticulture produce from Kashmir.

The meeting was attended by IGP Traffic, Kashmir, M. Soleman Choudhary; Deputy Commissioners, Director Horticulture Planning & Marketing, Ghulam Jeelani Zargar; officers of Northern Railway, Industries & Commerce and Information Departments, besides representatives of various fruit associations.

During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner directed all Deputy Commissioners and the Director Horticulture Planning & Marketing to hold consultations with fruit growers, traders, associations and aggregators to encourage wider and more economical utilization of railway freight services.

He stressed that railway transportation should be increasingly utilized for long-distance destinations, as it can provide a cost-effective and efficient alternative for transporting large quantities of horticulture produce. He also directed the Director Horticulture Planning & Marketing to ensure effective coordination among fruit growers, traders, associations and railway authorities for the smooth movement of produce.

The Div Com laid special emphasis on maximizing transportation of horticulture produce from Jablipora Mandi Anantnag. He further directed all Deputy Commissioners to explore and facilitate the transportation of a certain percentage of fruit consignments through railway services from their respective districts.

Discussing the Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) service, the Divisional Commissioner directed Northern Railway officials to share an informational video with fruit associations highlighting the prescribed technical parameters for trucks, including permissible load height and other requirements, to facilitate its effective utilization.

With regard to transportation of fruit by road, both Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and IGP Traffic Kashmir directed fruit associations to undertake extensive sensitization of truck drivers regarding adherence to the permissible load limits on the National Highway.

They emphasized that overloading not only violates prescribed norms but also poses serious risks to road safety and traffic management. The officers cautioned that strict punitive action would be taken against vehicles found violating the prescribed load limits.

Representatives of various fruit associations put forth their suggestions and sought long-term solutions for strengthening the transportation infrastructure for the horticulture sector, including improved connectivity of fruit mandis with the railway network.

The representatives also expressed appreciation to the administration for its continued support and facilitation of the fruit industry.

Earlier, the Director Horticulture Planning & Marketing made a detailed presentation on apple production in Kashmir, existing transportation arrangements and the economic advantages of utilizing railway goods and freight services for the movement of horticulture produce.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the teenager sustained injuries after being struck by a truck in Wathwora and was immediately shifted to the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Chadoora for treatment.

He said doctors at the hospital declared the boy brought dead. The deceased was identified as Mohd Faheem Teli (17), son of Mushtaq Ahmad Teli, a resident of Wathwora, Chadoora.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated an investigation.—(KNO)
