Record 9,837 leave Jammu in largest-ever single-day batch
Over 1.42 lakh devotees perform darshan in six days against 1.11 lakh last year

Jammu: The annual Amarnath Yatra is witnessing a huge surge in pilgrim turnout this year, with the number of devotees performing darshan in the first six days increasing by around 28 per cent compared to the previous year.
Official figures reveal that 1,42,861 pilgrims had performed darshan till 7:00 PM on Wednesday, against 1,11,975 during the first six days of the pilgrimage in 2025, which is an increase of 30,886 pilgrims, or around 28 per cent.
On Wednesday alone, 29,047 devotees paid obeisance at the holy cave shrine, including 18,362 men, 9,737 women, 404 children, 181 sadhus, 13 sadhvis, 11 transgender devotees and 339 security personnel.
Meanwhile, the pilgrimage also witnessed its largest-ever single-day departure from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu, with 9,837 pilgrims leaving in the seventh batch for the twin base camps of Pahalgam and Baltal.
Officials said that the batch departed in a convoy of 361 vehicles, including 188 vehicles carrying 5,337 pilgrims via the traditional Pahalgam route and 173 vehicles carrying 4,500 pilgrims via the Baltal route.
The batch comprised 6,684 men, 2,730 women, 21 children, 320 sadhus, 80 sadhvis and two transgender devotees.
A heavy rush of pilgrims was witnessed at the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas from the early hours of the day as devotees from different parts of the country assembled for the annual pilgrimage.
Amarnath ice Shivling shrinks significantly; devotees rush for early darshan
The naturally formed ice Shivling inside the holy Amarnath cave shrine has reduced noticeably compared to its size at the beginning of the Yatra. The development has led to a surge in the number of devotees keen to reach the cave shrine as early as possible.
The 57-day Yatra, which commenced on July 3, is being conducted under a multi-layered security arrangement with extensive logistical support from the administration, police, CAPFs, health services and other departments. The pilgrimage will conclude on August 28, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan

Says “ Laudable are Mookerjee’s contributions to J&K, education, industry, Onus on youth to follow his ideals of public service”

New Delhi, Srinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee was a great patriot and a visionary dedicated to the integrity of India. In his video message on the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Mookerjee, Mr Modi said, the thought of Dr Mookerjee is playing a major role in guiding modern India.
Reflecting on the enduring legacy of the revered leader, the Prime Minister noted how the foundational thoughts planted decades ago are now visibly blossoming across the societal and political landscape.
He credited this robust ideological framework with playing an indispensable role in charting the course for the nation’s contemporary progress. He said, Dr Mookerjee fiercely opposed the talk of two constitutions, two prime ministers, nd two flags in the country.
The Prime Minister said Syama Prasad Mookerjee understood very well that the essence of nation-building is in the building of institutions.
He said, Dr Mookerjee laid the foundation for such national institutions, which became India’s economic strength for decades to come.
Mr Modi said, when there is a government with the resolution of Nation First, then national heroes also get due respect. He expressed immense pride that the current administration successfully honored the legacy of Dr Mookerjee by permanently dismantling the barriers of Article 370.
Exploring the economic foresight of independent India’s first Industry Minister Dr Mookerjee, Mr Modi cataloged the establishment of monumental entities like Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, Sindri Fertiliser Plant, Damodar Valley Corporation, and IFCI.
He credited these foundational institutions with successfully powering the nation’s railway, agricultural, energy, and financial sectors for decades.
He said the government is celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee with a two-year national celebration. The Prime Minister said, this celebration began on July 6th of last year and will continue until July 6th of next year.
He said, Dr Mukherjee’s life is an inspiration for the culmination of an idea to a mass movement. Mr Modi said, with the formation of the BJP government in Bengal, the state is adding enthusiasm to this national honour and commemorating this inspirational figure.
Directing a powerful call to action toward the younger generation, the Prime Minister urged them to elevate the historical fight for a unified nation into a modern crusade for supreme national excellence. He challenged the youth to collectively shoulder the massive responsibility of achieving complete self-reliance.

Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday paid tributes to Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his 125th birth anniversary, describing the occasion as an “emotional day” and asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had fulfilled Mookerjee’s resolve by abrogating Article 370 and making Jammu and Kashmir an integral part of India.
Addressing a public event here, Shah said “Today is an emotional day for many people like me. Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee ji sacrificed his life to integrate Kashmir with India. He resigned from the country’s first Cabinet due to the Nehru-Liaquat Pact. He emphasised that India’s policies should be crafted from the fragrance of India’s own soil. Today, on the occasion of his 125th birth anniversary in Bengal, the foundation stone of his grand 125-foot statue has been laid,”
Shah explained that Mookerjee resigned from independent India’s first Cabinet because he found the Nehru-Liaquat Pact to be lopsided, as it ignored the plight of Hindus remaining in Pakistan. Shah noted:
“I have seen the resignation letter he submitted after the first Cabinet meeting. At that time, an agreement was reached between Jawaharlal Nehru and Liaquat. Upon studying the Nehru-Liaquat Pact, Dr Mookerjee remarked that it showed absolutely no concern for the Hindus in Pakistan and what was then East Pakistan. It took into consideration the Muslims who stayed in India, but not the Hindus who stayed in Pakistan and Bangladesh. He called it lopsided, and therefore he decided to resign from the Cabinet,”
Connecting Mookerjee’s legacy to current government policies, Shah highlighted the abrogation of Article 370:
“On Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s 125th birth anniversary, Modi ji fulfilled his resolve and abolished Article 370. Today, Kashmir is an integral part of Bharat.”
Shah also discussed the Center’s citizenship policy and promised the completion of citizenship procedures for persecuted Hindu refugees under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA):
“Today, the government of the same party has brought the CAA to grant citizenship to all Hindu refugees living in India. Today, I want to say from this platform that we will soon fulfil the remaining formalities for granting citizenship as well, because the BJP government is in West Bengal,”
Turning to legal reforms, Shah announced that a committee for the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) had been formed and that it would be implemented in the state:
“The committee for UCC has already been formed. The Uniform Civil Code is also set to be implemented in West Bengal,”
Shah praised the state government’s actions against crime, pointing to newly passed legislation as a key turning point, and noted that the process of removing infiltrators had commenced:
“The West Bengal Maintenance of Public Order Amendment Bill 2026 has now been passed. We had promised to teach the goons a lesson, and today this bill has become the first step in that direction,”
Finally, Shah recalled how the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, founded by Mookerjee, has evolved into the ruling BJP, which now governs a vast majority of India. He concluded by stating that the Modi government is working toward a developed India by 2047 based on Mookerjee’s civilizational vision:
“The party started today by Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee ji, the Jana Sangh, is now operating across two-thirds of the country’s area and more than two-thirds of its population in accordance with his policies, as the BJP. When he founded the Jana Sangh, he had taken a pledge that merely changing the government would not glorify India. The policies of free India should be crafted from the fragrance of India’s own soil, without the shadow of the West upon them. Today, under the leadership of Modi ji, India is advancing in that very direction.”

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday filed charges against Pakistan-based terrorist and LeT/TRF chief and founder Hafiz Saeed in the Pahalgam terror attack case that left 26 civilians, mostly tourists, dead.
The anti-terror agency has charged Hafiz Saeed in his individual capacity and also as the chief of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror outfit and its active proxy organisation The Resistance Front (TRF).
The accused has been charged under various sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. NIA has also invoked the penal section against the accused for waging war against India and hatching a conspiracy from across the border in the chargesheet.
The chargesheet, filed in continuation of the original 1,597-page chargesheet, provides details of Pakistan’s conspiracy, Hafeez Saeed’s role, and supporting evidence collected by NIA in the case through meticulous scientific investigation and on-ground examination.
On December last year, NIA had chargesheeted Pakistani handler terrorist Sajid Jatt as an accused, along with three terrorists killed by security forces during Operation Mahadev in July 2025, as well as two arrested accused. It had also charged the proscribed LeT/TRF terrorist organisation as a legal entity for its role in planning, facilitating, and executing the Pahalgam terror attack.
25 tourists and a local civilian were killed in the deadlu attack in the Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam on April 22 last year

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended warm congratulations to US President Donald Trump and the American people on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of US Independence, emphasizing the India-US relationship as a force for global good grounded in shared democratic values.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted the deep connection between the two nations, which transcends mere strategic partnership, and expressed optimism for future collaboration that would enhance prosperity and peace over the next 250 years. This message follows a recent meeting between Modi and Trump at the G7 Summit, where both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties despite existing challenges, such as tariff disputes and immigration issues. Trump characterized their relationship as exceptionally close, indicating a mutual desire to stabilize and deepen cooperation in strategic and economic areas. As the United States celebrates its milestone anniversary, Trump is set to lead the festivities, which have sparked political controversy due to their perceived partisanship. The celebrations include traditional events like fireworks and parades, particularly in Philadelphia, while Trump’s rally at the National Mall is expected to be a significant highlight, featuring military displays and heightened security measures. The anniversary has also revealed political divisions, with some Democratic-led states opting out of participation and performers withdrawing due to concerns over the celebrations’ political tone. Critics argue that the Freedom 250 initiative, which has taken a prominent role in the celebrations, presents a skewed narrative of American history, neglecting critical issues such as slavery and racial injustice.
