UN Chief’s snubbing: Blow to hate mongers

Hate mongers and governments allowing them to evade action have come in for sharp criticism from the head of the highest global body United Nations Organisation (UNO). The inaction against the TV channels who launched a vicious campaign against the members of the Tabligi Jamaat has probably caught the attention of the UN Chief António Guterres as reports about communalization of the Corona Virus control measures in India were received with contempt by the international media in US, middle east countries and several other parts of the world. Keeping in view the intensity of the glorification of the hate speeches against Tabligi Jammat in India after the outbreak of the coronavirus, the Narendra Modi led government in India has at least moral obligation to show respect to the UN Chief’s call for action against the hate spread by the hate mongers in different parts of the country. Ironically even the leaders and parliamentarians of the ruling party at the centre stigmatized the members of Tabligi Jamat even after some of them donated plasma for the treatment of other COVID-19 patients. As a mark of respect to the UN Chief’s observations on hate spread, the hate speeches against the members of Tabligi Jamaat should not go unnoticed in India like other major countries of the world as UN Chief in his statement has categorically said “I call on political leaders to show solidarity with all members of their societies and build and reinforce social cohesion”. So UN Chief’s statement clearly indicates that hate mongers have the political clout and as such tend to spread hate against the spirit of social cohesion even during the unprecedented lockdown imposed to prevent intensifying COVID-19 spread. Unfortunately the people of majority community spreading hate on social media sites like face book and twitter evade actions even if they carry out attacks on the people of minority communities but on the contrary the people of the minority communities are booked even for routine critical remarks against any individual or group of individuals of the majority community.
Interestingly no action was taken against the social media users who posted contemptuous post on social media against Pulitzer award winners –the Kashmiri journalists merely for the fault of being muslims. In a related incident the police is yet to take action even on a direction of a local court against some FB users who called for “carpet bombing” of Kashmir after the killing of three CRPF soldiers in Handwara area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district. Though true it is that government has to show zero tolerance against people challenging country’s security and sovereignty but intolerance against the hate mongers polarising a multi religious and multi-lingual society is also a constitutional duty of the government run today by on political party and could be in the hands of any other political party tomorrow.
