Srinagar/May,3 : President Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) and former civil society leaders Ab Qayaoom Wani on Sunday tributed Kashmir journalists on World press freedom day and demand withdrawal of cases against Kashmir journalists and release of those detained.
In a statement issued here Sunday Wani said “On world press freedome Day, when amid COVID 19 Pandemic right to expression should Have been flaring and glaring; Kashmir is relegated to 2g internet services and its journos are harassed for fair journalism. Saying that when people need fast and efficient information to fight the dreadful disease, its consequences, Wani said ‘ journalists in Kashmir have been deprived of the high speed internet which amounts to sheer injustice”.
Wani said that on one hand tall claims of freedom of press are made but on the other hand Kashmiri Journalists of diverse fields are harassed on one or the other pretext. “The role of a journalist is obviously to present truth to people as well as to power stakeholders for which a journalist uses any media from TV to Twitter”, Wani said , adding that “Journalists use minimum words in a beautiful texture for maximum meaning, they work like a mirror and show image to people common as well as to power corridors”.
Saying that Kashmiri newspapers and TV channels have seen enough bad days and need the real freedom as the tiny virus has shaken the world, Wani applauded the role of kashmiri journalists of all shades for working in tough times even at the risk of their life.
He demanded that cases against all kashmiri journalists should be withdrawn and those detained should be freed they should be given a free environment to exercise their professional duties.
