Nur-Sultan: Kazakhstan announced the provision of a package of humanitarian aid and relief as well as medical supplies to a number of its neighboring countries, in support of their efforts to face the repercussions of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has taken the decision to provide humanitarian assistance to Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan as part of the economic support extended by Kazakhstan to the neighboring countries amid the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. This aid package includes 5,000 tons of Kazakh flour for each country, worth more than US$3 million.
The generous initiative comes following the official appeals launched by Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to ensure uninterrupted supply of food to their peoples.
In a telephone conversation with President Tokayev, Tajikstan’s President Emomali Rahmon expressed his gratitude for the humanitarian aid and support to the Tajik people during these challenging times. He also voiced his gratitude for the assistance in the evacuation of Tajik citizens to their homeland, and in the transit of goods through the territory of Kazakhstan.
Meanwhile, during the phone call between Kazakh Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi and his Kyrgyz counterpart Chingiz Aidarbekov, the latter expressed sincere gratitude to Kazakhstan for the decision to provide humanitarian assistance.
Kazakhstan, as a responsible member of the international community, is actively contributing to combatting the global coronavirus pandemic, and continues to provide the necessary humanitarian aid to partner countries.
The transcontinental country was one of the first to provide partnership support to China in February to address the COVID-19 pandemic, carrying out several deliveries of medical protective equipment.
