COVID-19: Four more villages sealed in Kupwara

Kupwara: To prevent the spread of deadly virus in the district, the administration in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday declared four more villages as red zones and have sealed all of them after 10 contacts of a positive case were tested positive.

Officials told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the decision to cover more four Panchayat Halqas under Red Zone was taken after more ten cases were found infected to the virus.

An official from the district administration said that a suspect with travel history to Delhi was tested positive for Coronavirus on April 09th, adding that the patient had not taken any precautions nor had underwent the mandatory 14 days quarantine.

After being tested positive, preliminary contacts were traced for sampling and had been kept under quarantine, officials said, adding that 10 people among his contacts have been tested positive from his native village. They said the contacts who were tested positive include some of his family members too.

He said the residential place of the patient, Muqam Shahwali was declared red zone and necessary fumigation was done and reusable masks were distributed to contain the spread of the virus.

However, he said that the people from the containment zone are being tested positive here, bringing the number of cases up to 27 across the district.

The official also said that over the days, the administration has taken number of decisions to contain the spread of virus in Red Zone area. “Ahderhama and Muqam Shahwali red zones have witnessed surge in number of cases and to contain the spread, it has been decided to seal the adjoining areas as well,” the official said.

The areas declared red zone include, Panchayat Halqa Drugmulla, A,B (2,3,4 & 9), C and D— (KNO)
