Srinagar: Two militants were on Friday mornin killed during a gunfight that erupted after the launch of a cordon and search operation in South Kashmir’s Shopian district , police said.
The gunfight broke out in the wee hours after a cordon and search operation was launched jointly by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), 44 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operation Group (SOG) on Thursday night in Dairoo village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
A police official said the search operation following specific information about the presence of militants, adding that ” firing by militants on the search operations triggered an encounter and two militants were killed in the heavy exchange of fire.The identity and group affiliation of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained, the official said.
