Srinagar: Former chief minister and National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah on Saturday questioned the government decision to allow non J&K officers, including Lt Governor G C Murmu to function from winter capital, Jammu, when the annual darbar move is shifting to Srinagar.
Criticizing the government’s order of keeping the Move offices functional in both regions of the union territory–Jammu and Kashmir, Omar said it would create confusion among the people.
The government has ordered the formal opening of the annual Darbar Move offices in summer capital Srinagar on May 4, but said employees would work on a “as is where is” basis.
Taking to micro-blogging site twitter former CM Omar said “1. If it is safe for Kashmiri employees to move to Srinagar why not Jammuites? 2. If the files remain in Jammu what work will the Kashmiri employees do in the Srinagar secretariat? If the files move to Srinagar what work will be done in Jammu?, he asked.
He further tweeted “3. Why do non-J&K employees and officers lead by the LG of J&K not move to the valley as scheduled? What is the reason for them to continue to stay on in Jammu?”
Since the time of Mahraja rule before the independence, government offices are functioning for six summer months in Srinagar and six winter months from Jammu. The move costs hundreds of crores of rupees to goververnment annually forone-time move charges to employees and transportation of files.
