Absolutely humiliating , hurting and insulting it is for the 1.25 billion population to see the Prime Minister and several chief ministers failing to implement virus control measures, lockdown and return journey of migrant workers to their homes from several parts of the country. Prime Minister’s remark that he had to take hard decisions keeping in view the uncontrolled virus threat to the live of people across the country but his decisions to announce Janta Curfew and lockdown were totally unplanned and mismanaged late as the Government woke up when it was too late. Had the Prime Minister announced lockdown 2-3 days before its imposition to give migrant workers, students and traders time to travel to their home states, the law enforcers won’t have faced lockdown violation in parts of Delhi, Utter Pradesh and many other states. The videos uploaded on social media sites like face book and twitter by the migrant workers, students and traders stuck in different parts of the country for attracting the attention of the government toward the difficulties they are facing in inaccessible areas away from their homes show that law enforcing authorities don’t take care of their difficulties. The lockdown violations show the failures of the government both in the enforcement of the crackdown and as well as arrangement and management of accommodation and food facilities of migrant workers, students and traders. The lockdown violations in Delhi are by all standards of understandabilities shows the failures of the central government which commands and controls Delhi police. Apologies for big lapses like lockdown violations won’t reduce the intensity of the chaos panicking the hapless populations but would consequentially increase the intensity of COVID-19 spread.
The battle against COVID-19 can’t be won by words but actions of the government on ground would take its fight against coronavirous to logical conclusion.
To break the increasing chains of COVID-19 spread, the government has to reduce the chances of law and order lapses and mismanagement of the accommodation and food facilities for the migrant workers, students and traders in different parts of the country. Knowing that millions of houseless Indians are forced to take shelter in government accommodations due to enforcement of strict lockdown, both the central and the state governments will have to take immediate steps for establishing shelter homes both on the highways and as well as the main cities to ensure that people on way to their homes don’t die of starvation in mid way. Care has to be taken that shelter homes have proper arrangements for physical distancing and are livable as otherwise the COVID-19 breakout in shelter homes can trigger another major crisis and intensify the increasing intensity of the COVID-19 spread in the country. The battle against COVID-19 can’t be won by words but actions of the government on ground would take its fight against coronavirous to logical conclusion.
