SMC bans constructions in Srinagar city, launches sterlisation drives in civil lines areas

Srinagar/March,25 : The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Wednesday put blanket ban on constructions within the municipal limits of Srinagar city and carried out prompt sterilization drives in Hyderpora and Natipora areas of Srinagar city after two cases were declared positive for COVID- 19.
A statement issued from the Srinagar Municipal Corporation said “a fully equipped team of fifty members took to these areas for conducting fumigation and prescribed chemical spraying around 300 mtr radius of these areas”, adding that “all the connecting lanes , by lanes, mohhallas, mosques etc in Natipora and Hyderpora were well sanitized under the supervision of the concerned ward officers, Sanitary supervisors and inspectors”.
“SMC is continuously conducting sterilisation drives with an aim to sanitise and disinfect all the areas including hospitals’ Quarantines, important destinations’ like Ration Depos, ATMS, Banks, other essential service locations within the limits of Srinagar city”, said Commissioner SMC Gazanfar Ali reads the statement. Meanwhile SMC has also banned construction within the municipal limits of Srinagar city as Mayor Junaid Azeem in his tweet on Wednesday said, “SMC is notifying a complete ban on all sorts of construction within SMC limits effective immediately and till further orders. Requesting Jammu and Kashmir police to help with halting this construction at Mujigund”.
In this regard an order vide order No 533 dated 25.3.2020 was immediately issued by Joint Commissioner Planning SMC that reads as ” It has been observed that during lockdowns, people prefer illegal/ unauthorized constructions, encroachments, deviations by taking advantage of the situation. Therefore, in view of current Covid-19 crisis’ where under national lockdown period has been announced, all ongoing construction activities (including sanctioned permissions) within Srinagar Municipal Corporation limits are banned with immediate effect from today, i.e., 25th March 2020 till further orders. Any violation in this regard shall be strictly dealt within the ambit of law further reads order…”
