Div Com Jammu reviews developmental scenario in Kathua

KATHUA: Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Sanjeev Verma today reviewed the progress of development works and schemes in this border district, here at a meeting of district heads of line departments

At the outset, District Development Commissioner, O P Bhagat gave detailed presentation of ongoing projects of PHE, PWD, PDD, Health, PMGSY, Forest, Sports, Agriculture, Horticulture sectors etc, besides Capex budget achievements.

After reviewing the project wise status of the works under execution by various departments, the Div Com directed the Executive Engineer of Works department to blacklist and terminate the non performing contractors. He further directed to remove inter departmental disputes during project execution.

He also inquired about the water supply schemes in the district and asked the Engineers of PHE department to work and plan in advance to resolve water crisis during upcoming summer season.

Status of major road projects including quantity of macdamization and bridges was also inquired by the Div Com.

He directed the   PHE department to identify sites in rain fed area of the district for developing huge water reservoir structures and mini check dams to mitigate the problem of drinking water and irrigation.

He also asked the concerned Engineers to repair defunct Hand Pumps as they will also help in reducing problem in water stressed areas of the district, especially during peak summer season.

To increase farmers’ income and to facilitate them in selling their agricultural produce, Verma asked the Agriculture department to open sufficient number of procurement centers across the district.

Later, the Div Com also visited the camp organized by the revenue department to discuss the progress achieved in distributing relief to the West Pakistan Refugee families.

He directed all the revenue officers to facilitate the WPR families in completing their formalities for claiming the compensation amount.

Earlier, the Div Com also interacted with the Panchs, Sarpanchs and BDC chairpersons of Kathua, Nagri and Hiranagar area and listened to their issues.

The  issues projected were mainly related to drinking water, irrigation facilities, repair of roads, utility shifting, realignment of Ujh Barrage, augmentation of PHE and PDD infra, clearing NREGA and PMAY liabilities.

He directed the CPO  to draw a calendar for organizing Gram Sabhas across the district in which Engineers of PHE and Irrigation department will listen to problems of the villagers  and try to redress the same on the spot. The overall activity will be directly monitored by the DDC, he directed.

He further directed the SE, PHE to go for rationalization of PHE staff so that they can be held accountable for their job and rendering their services to the people.

He also flagged off a batch of farmers on 3 day exposure tour to Palampur in Himachal Pradesh.

SSP, Dr. Shailendar Mishra, ADC, Atul Gupta, HoDs of various departments and District Officers were present during the meeting.
