Two militants, CRPF personal killed in Srinagar shootout

Srinagar:  Two militants and CRPF personnal was killed in a brief shoot out at Parimpora area of Srinagar on Wednesday, while as another militant was injured, police said on Wednesday.

According to police, three militants were travelling on a Scooty while reaching to Parimpora they were stopped by the security forces for checking and one of them opened fire on the security forces in which one CRPF personal was killed.

The officer said that two militants were killed on spot while another one was injured in the firing and was captured alive during the searches in the area.  He said the injured militant is undergoing treatment at   SMHS Hospital, he added.
Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief Dilbag Sing in a presser at PCR said there is strong security grid in place and by the coordination of the security forces they are getting success in anti militancy operation in the valley.
Reports said soon after the encounter, the traffic on  the Baramulla Srinagar highway was closed for  hours  and the security was high tightened along the highway.

The DGP who was flanked by IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar identified the militants as Zia u Rehman of Budgam, Khatib of Bijbehara and Umar Fayaz (Injured) a resident of Srinagar. The deceased CRPF person was identified as GD Ramesh Rajan of 73 battalion CPRF , resident of Ari, Bihar sustained his injures.

Meanwhile , a police press statement said Khateeb Dass was the brother-in-law of Mugees Mir of Parimpora who was earlier killed in an encounter. Khateeb Dass as per police records was affiliated with HM and had been part of groups involved in carrying out militant attacks in the areas of South Kashmir. Several militancy related cases were registered against him including case FIR No. 104/2015.

“As per police records Zia u Rehman Wani was affiliated with proscribed LeT and was part of groups involved in carrying out attacks on guard posts, security deployments and several other grenade attacks besides civilian atrocities. He had history of militancy since 2018. Several cases were registered against him including case FIR No. 73/2018 pertaining to decamping of weapons from the residential guard post of erstwhile Congress MLC Muzaffar Parray at Jawahar Nagar Srinagar,” statement reads.

“Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition was recovered from the terrorists. All the recovered incriminating materials have been taken into case records for the purpose of investigation and probe their complicity in militancy cases.

Police have registered a case in this matter and further investigation is in progress,” statement added,

This is the 10th encounter since Jan 1st in which 20 militants and three security personals were killed.

DGP also said he is hopeful this summer will remain peaceful.

“ We will ensure law and order in the state and are taking all security measures for that,” he said.

It is to mention that this is the first encounter in the Srinagar city since the abrogation of article 370 (KNS
