Div Com (J) inaugurates GDC Jourian, holds gram sabha, listens to public grievances

Jammu : Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Verma Monday inaugurated newly established Government Degree College here at Jourian.
District Development Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar, ACD Jammu, Aijaz Kesar,Sub Divisional Magistrate Akhnoor, principal GDC Akhnoor, Tehsildars, BDO’s and other concerned officers accompanied the Div Com.
In his inaugural address, the Div Com said opening of new degree colleges aims at to provide higher education facilities to the rural youth at their doorsteps. He said the new GDC will greatly benefit the students of Jourian and the adjoining areas who had to cover long distance for higher studies.
He also urged the students to stay away from social evils like drugs and work hard in their studies for achieving high goals in life.
The Principal GDC Jourian, said the first batch of the College has been started with total enrollment of 70 students in arts stream.
Later, the Div Com also listened to the grievances of the local public. The locals said the students are facing problem due to non availability of science and commerce subjects.
Meanwhile, the Div Com inspected horticulture nursery in the area and inquired about its output from the concerned officers.
During the tour, he also visited Chack Malal khour block, and held a gram sabha.(Public Outreach program).
DDC, ACD,SDM,BDO, officials of PHE, PDD, PWD, RDD,K VIC, Horticulture, Agriculture, Health, forest, PRIs were also present.
Locals and PRI’s apprised the Div Com about the problems and demands. They sought upgrading of basic infrastructure in the border areas including road connectivity, better provision of drinking water, power supply, adequate teaching and health staff, improvement in the infrastructure in schools, health centres and problems regarding ration cards, land compensation and other related matters. They also submitted a memorandum of demands.
The Div Com assured the people that all their genuine demands would be looked into for prompt redress. He also passed on the spot directions to the concerned officers for resolving several issues.
He also asked the officers to aware people regarding various government initiative and schemes.
Later, he visited GDC Khour and launched a plantion drive on the campus by planting saplings. He directed for carrying out massive plantation on the vacant land in the College premises.
