Srinagar: Hurriyat conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that a panel comprising Ulemas, Traders, civil Society members and Kashmir Pandits will be constituted to take steps unitedly for the return of Kashmiri Pandits.
Local news gathering agency KNS quoted Mirwaiz as saying that the members of Kashmiri Pandit community on the occasion of Mela Khirbhawani met him and urged him to play a role as Mirwaiz with regard to ensure their return to the Valley.
“The return of Kashmiri Pandits is a human issue and there must a start in this regard. We don’t see return of Kashmiri Pandits through the prism of Kashmir issue but it is a human issue,” he added.
He said that Kashmiri Pandits during the meeting with him also made it clear that they don’t want to live in separate colonies but are aspiring to live with the Muslim community here. “We have decided to constitute a panel in which Ulemas, Civil society, traders, Pandits living in the Valley and others will be involved in this regard and the community to community trust will also be build,” he said.
However, he said that some people in the studios are weakening the case of Kashmiri Pandits, which is unfortunate. “We (Hurriyat) don’t want any political mileage in felicitating the return of Kashmiri Pandits as we don’t need votes. We will take steps from our side and the Govt should also play role by helping them financially and through other means,” he added.
Mirwaiz further stated that the interaction with the Pandits was on over some issues. “I believe the Kashmiri Pandit community might have understood how people used them for their personal interests,” he added
