Two militants owing allegiance to ISJK killed in Shopian gunfight: Police

Shopian: Two militants having their allegiance with the Islamic State of Jammu and Kashmir were killed in an encounter at Awneera village of Zainapora belt in South Kashmir’s Shopian district during pre-dawn hours on Tuesday, police said.
However, another militant was killed in the separate gunfight that raged at Sopore Payeen in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. An official said that two militants were been killed while as search operation is underway in the area. He said that the slain owed allegiance to the AGH and ISJK.
Earlier, on receiving specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area joint team of forces including 1st RR, CRPF and SOG launched search operation in the area, official said.
On intensifying the search operation towards the suspected spot, militants hiding fired upon forces which was retaliated triggering gunfight, he said. Meanwhile as a precautionary measure, internet services have been snapped in the area.
A police spokesman said that at Awneera area of Shopian, it is further informed that the two killed militants were identified as Sayar Ahmad Bhat of Yaripora Kulgam and Shakir Ahmad Wagay of Awneera Shopian.
As per police records both the slain militants were inspired by Islamic Ideology. “They were wanted by law for their complicity in crimes including attack on security establishments,” he said.
According to the police records, they were part of groups involved in planning and executing attacks in the area and many other civilian atrocities. “Shakir Wagay according to police records was involved in Case FIR No 25/2019 pertaining to the killing of civilian Irfan Hameed Sheikh of Zainapora. Crime cases were registered against both of them,” he said.
Meanwhile, another encounter raged at Wadoora area of Sopore, Payeen in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Sources said that one militant was killed in an on-going gunfight at Sopore while as intermittent firing was going on.
