Srinagar/May, 28 : Expressing concern on the attempts being made to fragment the mandate in Jammu and Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Tuesday asserted that it shall be open for joint response to the new political challenges state was facing.

The concerns were expressed by the members of Political Affairs Committee of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples’ Democratic Party which met here under the chairmanship of party president and former Chief Minister Ms. Mehbooba Mufti.

Party Patron Muzaffar Hussain Beigh,   Abdul Rahman Veeri, Abdul Haq Khan, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura, Dr Mehboob Beg, Rafi Ahmad Mir, Sartaj Madni, Naeem Akhtar, Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Nizam-ud-din Bhat, Firdous Tak, Choudhary Hameed, Ved Mahajan, Tarlok Singh Bajwa and several others also participated.

“The party held threadbare discussion about the current political situation within the state of Jammu and Kashmir besides the measures to be taken to strengthen the party at gross root level”, Party’s Chief Spokesman Rafi Ahmad Mir said after the meet.

The participants observed that the onslaught on the special status of Jammu and Kashmir was multi dimensional and every attempt was being made to politically disempower the citizens of state. “It was also felt that while in some parts of state the voters are being unified for common cause there were parallel efforts being made in other parts of Jammu and Kashmir to create vertical political split in order to chock and curb regional aspirations”, the spokesman said.

He said that it was decided that a wider consensus needs to be built to defeat the nefarious designs aimed at dividing the state into fragments and disempowering people all across.

It was further observed that a coordinated political initiative was needed to restore the political authority of people of the state and protect the core interests of Jammu and Kashmir.  The party declared that it is open to coordination and reach out to safeguard Jammu and Kashmir’s core interests and special position.

The meeting also held threadbare discussion on the ways and means to strengthen the party across the state. It was decided that PDP will launch state wide programmes to reach out to the workers besides reorganization of important wings of the organization.

There was a view among the members that several party leaders who are not now part of the organization have contributed for the growth of party and efforts could be made to reach out to them for the larger interests of the state.
