Srinagar/May,24 : Following the killing of Kashmir’s most wanted militant commander Zakir Musa also the Chief of Gazwat Ul Hind in a gunfight on Thursday evening in Dadsara village of Tral area in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district the law enforcing authorities on Friday imposed strict restrictions in parts of Kashmir valley where the protests broke out in the late evening hours Thursday after the news about killing of Musa went viral on social media.
The Government also announced the closure of all educational institutions and snapped mobile internet facility across Kashmir in view of the apprehensions of widespread violent protests as it had planned to handover the body of the slain militant commander to his family Friday morning . The authorities even reduced the speed of the fixed landline broadband connections to prevent uploading of inflammatory posts and pictures.
Heavy contingents of police and paramilitaries were deployed in parts of Srinagar city, south Kashmir’s Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian and Kulgam districts . As reported already Musa was killed late on Thursday evening by security forces in Pulwama district when government forces had launched a cordon and search operation in Dadsara village of Tral area .The trapped militant commander was asked to surrender, but Instead of pay heed to surrender call from the government forces he hurled grenades and government forces retaliated triggering an encounter.
Real name, Zakir Rashid Bhat, Musa was a militant of Hizbul Mujahideen who succeeded Burhan and later headed the Al Qaeda affiliate Gazwat Ul Hind. He had taken to militancy in 2013. An engineering student in Chandigarh who abandoned education and joined militancy, Musa was born in Noorpora village of Tral area. The killing of Musa is seen as a big success for the security forces in their anti-militancy operations in Kashmir.
After Burhan Wani’s death, Zakir Musa threatened to behead Kashmiri separatist leaders of the Hurriyat Conference for calling Kashmir a political dispute instead of a religious struggle to establish an Islamic state.
