Srinagar: Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) which had got yet another landslide mandate in the Lok Sabha elections across the country, has again failed to make inroads in the Kashmir valley, though it has slightly increased the vote percentage of the total votes polled this time against 2014 polls.
However, votes polled this time in three Lok Sabha constituencies of Srinagar, Anantnag and Baramulla by BJP candidate was less as compared to 2014.
BJP candidate from Srinagar constituency Khalid Jehangir polled just 1965 votes through Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) this time. Interestingly Khalid Jehangir got highest migrant votes of 2584 while former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah, who had established unassailable lead in the constituency, has received just 140 migrant votes followed by Irfan Raza of Peoples Conference (PC) 77 and Aga Syed Mohsin of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) just 11 votes.  BJP candidate has in total got 4634 votes which was 2.48 per cent of total votes polled in the constituency. However, in 2014 BJP Candidate Fayaz Ahmad Bhat had got 4467 votes which was 0.72 of total votes polled in the constituency.
However, Dr Abdullah got highest 154 postal votes followed by BJP candidate 85 and PC nominee 80 votes.
Sofi Mohammad Yousuf, MLC, BJP candidate from Anantnag got just 2436 votes which was just 2.12 per cent of votes polled in the constituency this time. However, during 2014 Sofi Yousuf had got 4836 votes which was 3.2 per cent of total votes polled in the constituency.
In Baramulla constituency, BJP candidate Mohammad Maqbool War has polled 5440 votes which was just 1.22 per cent of total votes polled this time. However, in 2014 BJP candidate GM Mir had polled 6558 votes which was 1.41 per cent of total votes polled in the constituency.
