Valley shuts on death anniversaries of Mirwaiz Farooq, Gani Lone as restrictions foil separatist march in Srinagar

Srinagar:  A shutdown on Tuesday on the eve of the death anniversaries of Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq and Peoples Conference Founder Ab Gani Lone on Tuesday amid the house detention  of Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq and restrictions in old parts of Srinagar city hit normal life across Kashmir.
Reports said all shops , educational institutions and business establishments in Srinagar, including the commercial hub Lal Chowk remained shut and passenger transport was off the roads. The private vehicles were rarely seen moving on the roads in the civil line areas of Srinagar city. In old parts of  Srinagar city the law enforcing  authorities had imposed restrictions to foil a protest march from Jamia Masjid Srinagar to martyrs graveyard Eidgah and Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq was housed detained on Monday evening to disallow him to lead the protest march from Jamia Masjid to Eidgah in Srinagar.Reports of shutdown were also received from other districts of Kashmir valley.
The shutdown was called by the separatists to mark the death anniversaries of Moulvi Muhammad Farooq, Abdul Gani Lone and the Hawal martyrs.Mirwaiz Moulana Moulvi Muhammad Farooq, the father of Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, was killed at his residence in the outskirts of the city on May 21, 1990 and Peoples Conference founder  Abdul Gani Lone, father of Sajad Lone a former minister of the previous Mehbooba led PDP-BJP coalition and Bilal Lone a top leader of  Mirwaiz Umar Farooq headed Hurriyat Conference , was killed at the martyrs graveyard on May 21, 2002.
