Traffic police seizes 11 school vehicles, fine 62 others for violations

Jammu/May,12: Traffic police Friday seized 11 school vehicles and imposed fine on 62 others in different parts of Jammu city for violation of MV Act/Rules.

A special drive was conducted by Jammu City Traffic Police under the supervision of SSP Traffic City, Jammu in pursuance to the guidelines issued by Supreme Court of India with regard to safety measures for school going children.

The drive was conducted between 0700 hours to 0900 hours to check traffic violations, if any committed by vehicles viz Omni Vans/Auto Rickshaws and other vehicles engaged for ferrying the school going children.

Traffic Officers were deployed outside the gates of Schools including Jodhamal Public School Channi, Heritage School Sainik Colony, Presentation Convent School Gandhi Nagar, DPS School Residency Road, Dream Land Public School Janipur, K.C. International/ KC Public School/ KC Guru Kul Paloura, St. Peter School Jewel Chowk, Dogra HSS School Shastri Nagar to check traffic violations by school vans, Auto Rickshaws engaged for ferrying the school going children.

During the special drive, total 72 School Vehicles viz Omni Vehicles,  mini buses were found violating the M V Act/Rules and were booked accordingly.

Out of 72 vehicles, 61 were challaned, while 11 others including 8 Vans and 3 Mini Buses were seized on spot and sent to TPL Jammu for safe custody.

The aim behind the drive was to check the menace of traffic violations to ensure safety of school going students, and to ensure that the drivers of the vehicles are in possession of valid driving license/other allied documents.

According to SSP Traffic City, Jammu more such special drives shall be carried in future also to maintain effectiveness and to curb the violations under M.V Act.
