Srinagar/May, 18: A militant was on Saturday killed in Hathlangoo village of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district after government forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area, police said.
In a statement issued after the gunfight was over police said “n a credible input, a cordon & search operation was launched by police and security forces at Hathlangoo area of Sopore”, adding that “during the search operation, the hiding terrorists fired on the search party and the fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.”
Saying that “one militant was killed and the body was retrieved from the site of encounter site”, police in its statement gower said that the identity and affiliation of the killed terrorist is being ascertained. As search in the area continues.
Claiming recovery of incriminating material including arms & ammunition from the gunfight site, the police in its statement appealed people not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials.
