Srinagar/May,11: A group of environmentally conscious volunteers led by  Tassaduq Hussain Mufti and comprising representatives of Pahalgam Hotel Owners Association and the Arasta Foundation met Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here Thursday.

Akshay Koul from the Arasta Foundation gave a presentation of the study carried out by the Foundation on solid waste generation in the Pahalgam town and along the Chandanwari-Holy Cave and Sonamarg-Baltal- Holy Cave routes. The group expressed its objective of working in concert with the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board during the annual Yatra period for managing solid waste disposal.

Appreciating the efforts of the group in carrying out a study on problems of waste management, Governor urged their full co-operation and involvement in introducing new and innovative technologies for conversion of wastes into wealth. He urged them to increase awareness among people at large about the various environmental friendly technologies available for garbage conversion and also complimented the Hoteliers for their efforts in preserving the environment.
