Kashmir at the brink of food starvation scenario

Traffic restrictions on truckloads of essential commodities on Kashmir highway are shooting up prices of vegetables and fruits due to shortage of the supplies distributed from fruit mandi Parimpora the biggest hub of vegetable and fruit trading in Kashmir valley. The shutdown against the restrictions on truckloads of essentials by Parimpora fruit mandi traders ironically does not attract the attention of Kashmir’s divisional administration even this time when few days are left for the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan. Keeping in view the restrictions on civilian traffic on Kashmir highway twice a week ,the divisional administration in Kashmir should taken care of the smooth transportation of essential commodities from Jammu and other parts of the country to Srinagar and other major towns of Kashmir valley. Though divisional administration Kashmir initially exempted the movement of vehicles carrying essential commodities from two day weekly ban on civilian traffic but the recent restrictions on the movement of truckloads of essentials on Kashmir highway speaks volumes about the failure of the government in implanting its own decision on the movement of essential services on Kashmir highway. Not only fruits and vegetables but the supply of mutton and poultry birds has been also hit by the restricted movement of trucks carrying essentials from Jammu and Delhi to Srinagar on Kashmir highway.
Under the garb of the security of army and paramilitary convoys on Kashmir highway, the government is virtually cutting off all the supply lines to Kashmir valley perhaps to put the hapless populations of Kashmir valley at the receiving end with the only intent of using pro-active policy on Kashmir as an election tool in the ongoing lok sabha elections. The traffic restrictions on the movement of truckloads carrying essentials from Jammu to Srinagar if not eased immediately would lead to a crisis which the government can’t resolve in the holy month of Ramadan. The government owes an explanation to for failing to discharge its duties in maintaining the supplies of essentials in Kashmir and more so this time when the holy month of Ramadan is commencing after few days.
