Srinagar: State Human Rights Commission Wednesday issued a notice to Jammu Kashmir Government directing it to submit a detailed report about the detention of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front leader Muhammad Yasin Malik.
The petition regarding the detention of Yasin Malik had been submitted before the Commission by Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, Chairman International Forum of Justice and Human Rights.
The petitioner in his petition before the Commission had submitted that: “Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik was arrested on the directions and orders of the Jammu Kashmir Government on 22 February 2019 and subsequently detained under draconian Public Safety Act and shifted to Kot Bhalwal Jail Jammu.”
The petitioner had said that Muhammad Yasin Malik is a political leader whom authorities detained under preventive detention. “Authorities illegally allowed police authorities to change Malik’s custody and handed him over to National Investigation Agency. The health of Muhammad Yasin Malik deteriorated after NIA took him into custody.”
The petitioner had alleged that families and relatives were not allowed to meet Malik while NIA shifted him to RML Hospital when his health condition was critical. “Malik has disclosed to his lawyer that he was beaten up ruthlessly by his interrogators and his life is under threat,” reads the petition adding that the life and honour of Yasin Malik should be saved.
“It is the duty of authorities to take every care of the inmate,” reads the petition praying that the respondents be directed to furnish the detailed report regarding the health status and the status of the Muhammad Yasin Malik and to produce him before the media so as the apprehensions regarding the assassination bid on Malik to be put at rest.
While taking cognizance of the petition,
State Human Rights Commission chairperson Justice Bilal Nazki issued to notices to Chief Secretary JK, Commissioner Secretary Home Department JK and DGP police JK directing them to submit the detailed compliance report before the Commission status report about the detention and health of Muhammad Yasin Malik.
