New Delhi, May 10: All is set for the May 12 all-party meeting that the Election Commission has called here in the wake of complaints by several political parties regarding alleged “manipulation” of EVMs, with the issue having acquired added interest following yesterday’s so called demonstration of ‘ EVM tampering’ held on the floor of the Delhi Assembly by the Kejriwal government.
The Election Commission today released the agenda for the meeting which includes issues like EVM and VVPAT, proposal of making bribery in elections a cognisable offence, disqualification on framing of charges for the offence of bribery in Elections and suggestions on VVPAT recount rules.
The poll panel has invited all seven national parties and 48 recognised state political parties and has also sent them status Paper on EVM/VVPAT.
The Commission has asked all the political parties to depute three senior representatives (one of whom may be a technical representative, if desired) on behalf of their party for participation in the all-party meeting.
On the issue of bribing of voters, the poll panel has proposed that the Law to deal with these malpractices should be made more stringent.
