NIA promises security cover to Mirwaiz in Delhi, summons chief cleric on April 8

Jammu: National Investigation Agency (NIA) issued a third notice to Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in an alleged funding case asking him to produce himself before the agency on April 8 on the pretext of providing him adequate security cover in New Delhi, NIA sources said.
The notice, according to sources, says that Mirwaiz’s security concerns in New Delhi will be taken care of. Mirwaiz had been refusing to travel to Delhi on earlier two occasions, citing security threat and hostile atmosphere.
Mirwaiz, in a recent Friday sermon had said that New Delhi cannot intimidate Kashmiri by issuing summons. Mirwaiz was referring to the summon of the NIA which was issued to him asking him to present himself before the agency in New Delhi. The chief cleric of Kashmir also added that Kashmiri will continue to seek peaceful resolution of Kashmir dispute.
“Is seeking peaceful resolution of Kashmir terrorism,” Mirwaiz asked. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq had been summoned by the National Investigation Agency recently. However, Mirwaiz added that he won’t go to New Delhi but give a written reply to the NIA.
In his written reply according to his legal counsel ‘it was unwise for his client to travel to Delhi under the prevailing conditions of hostility wherein there is a threat to the personal safety of my client.’
Earlier, Hurriyat (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani said that if NIA wants to question anyone, they can do it in the valley itself. Reliable sources in the Hurriyat (M) revealed that Mirwaiz was weighting options and he would take a final call as whether to face the NIA on Monday in Delhi, on Saturday. “Deliberations are on and he (Mirwaiz )is taking feedback from his friends and legal experts,” sources said.
