Jammu: Civil Society for Development of Jammu and Kashmir (CSD J&K) chief Puneet Singh Jamwal Tuesday appealed people to come out in large numbers and cast their votes in ensuing general elections as this was their democratic right. He said all eligible voters should ensure that they cast their votes and strengthen democracy.
In his statement issued from Jammu, Puneet Singh Jamwal said pictures of aged, infirm, young and handicap casting their votes in elections are made public only to encourage voters. He said these people should be icons and good enough to encourage voters to exercise their franchise. He also added that at several occasions, young boys and girls have preferred to cast their votes after marriage functions and other social events.
Puneet Singh Jamwal said voting is a democratic right and such and every individual who’s an eligible voters should not skip the day and vote. India around the globe is known for being largest democracy and to strengthen its institutions what’s needed is a strong elections system. He added that Election Commission of India (ECI) has made elaborate arrangents for people to cast their votes. Ramps, electricity, water, toilets, security, handy voter lists and trained staff besides allied arrangements stand done for the convenience of voters and in such a given situation staying away on voting day is not good and is against the democratic principles.
The CSD J&K Chief asked young boys and girls to come out of their homes on the Election Day and cast their votes like a festival. Democracy otherwise is also a festival that needs to be celebrated so that good and credible candidates are elected and not criminals or those having no interest on electoral politics or social works.
