Srinagar: The Returning Officer for the Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary Thursday convened a meeting with AROs and Nodal Officers to review the preparedness for General Elections 2019 in the constituency.
The RO emphasised the importance of ensuring strict implementation and adherence to the Model Code of Conduct instructing that all AROs must keep watch on instances of violations and report these to the nodal officers and him in order that timely and appropriate action as laid down by the ECI is taken against the violators.
The Returning Officer said unreported violations will result in strict action against the concerned AROs.
The AROs were also directed to impart proper training to the polling staff so as to ensure that no problems or issues are encountered by the said staff during the poll duty.
The RO directed that positioning of EVM and VVPAT machines along with the associated staff must be properly managed so that in case of technical faults or malfunctioning substitute machines are dispatched to the polling station to prevent adverse impact on voting.
It was also directed that AROs must ensure availability of basic minimum facilities at all polling stations.
The RO also instructed for ensuring facilitation of voters with disabilities as per the directions of the Election Commission of India.
The Nodal Officers were instructed to facilitate members of armed police force and army personnel serving outside the State to prepare postal ballot papers after following due procedure in efforts to facilitate them to cast their votes.
Observers of all assembly constituencies falling within the Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency also attended the meeting.
