Mehbooba’s challenges in election time

Not concerned over repeated denials of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP Chief Amit Shah the PDP President and incumbent Chief is expecting the unexpected by saying “Modi only can resolve Kashmir issue”. So for the ground reality in Kashmir speaks volumes about Narendra Modi’s unwillingness to holy any dialogue with either the separatist leadership in Kashmir or the Pakistan government. Instead of holding dialogue Modi government is tending to restore calm by military methods condemned by people of all shades and opinions within and outside Jammu & Kashmir state. The hard reality about public response to the military methods experimented and re-experimented in the times of public unrest in Kashmir is that political outreach is the only way to win over the wounded hearts of those who are angered over the Mehbooba government’s repeated denials on the demands of judicial probe into about one hundred civilian deaths reported during last year’s unrest.

Though people reposed confidence in the PDP leadership on the commitments of self rule, increase in the frequency of trade and travel activities across the line of control (LoC), withdrawal of troops from the populated areas and revocation of armed forces special powers act (AFSPA) but PDP instead of working on pre-poll promises stitched an alliance with BJP only to falsify its promise of stopping BJP from sharing power in the muslim majority Jammu & Kashmir state. Now by expecting the unexpected by saying “Modi alone will solve Kashmir issue” Chief Minister Mehbooba is endorsing her critics what say “ PDP is now almost modified”.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is expecting an initiative of dialogue from Prime Minister Modi but is silent about the Modi government’s continuing tendencies to directly exercise control the top babus and law enforcement authorities including Chief Secretary B B Vyas and Director General Police S.P Vaid through Governor N N Vohra in the presence of an elected government the shareholder of which is also the BJP itself. For the last four days the home ministry and prime minister’s office is taking briefs from the governor and the Director General Police on the current situation in Kashmir only to sent out a message that New Delhi does not bother to take feedback from the Chief Minister who has been in categorical terms to restore normalcy before recommending dialogue with stakeholders. Now by expecting the unexpected by saying “Modi alone will solve Kashmir issue” Chief Minister Mehbooba is endorsing her critics what say “PDP is now almost modified”.
