Restrictions imposed in Kashmir parts, mobile internet services reduced to 2G across Kashmir

Srinagar/March, 1: Restrictions  were on Friday imposed in old parts of Srinagar city and parts of south Kashmir including Anantnag town. The mobile Internet speed was reduced to 2G across Kashmir .

Reports said that the forces were deployed in strength in the Old City and Anantnag and Bijbehara towns in south Kashmir. Concertina wires were installed in Anantnag town to restrict the movement of the the people. .

Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq has been already detained apparently to prevent him from addressing Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid Srinagar.

The curbs were imposed hours after the Home Ministry in Delhi issued an order to ban Jammu and Kashmir Jamaat-e-Islami, days after arresting hundreds of its cadres in a massive crackdown.

In another order, the government of India approved extension of two central constitutional amendments to Jammu and Kashmir on recommendations of the state’s governor for granting reservation in promotions and reservation for economically-weaker sections of the society.

The concurrence for extending these amendments was given by the governor Satya Pal Malik, the government of India’s own nominee, after the state administrative council (SAC) approved the proposal earlier this month.

Under Article 370, the constitutional amendments can be extended to J&K only on concurrence of the state government.

Legal experts opine that concurrence for extending constitutional amendments can be given only by an elected government.

“Any constitutional amendment can be extended to the state on the recommendations of state government, which means an elected government,” they suggested.

Meanwhile, six Jama’at-e-Islamia activists were detained by the police during fresh raids in various villages of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

A source said six Jama’at activists were detained from Laribal, Pinglish, Dardsara, Panner, Mandoora and Lurgam villages of Tral last night.
