Srinagar/Feb, 13: Paying heed to call of Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL for two day shutdown against “ambiguity on date of hearing on aricle 35 A in the supreme court of India a complete shutdown on Wednesday hit normal life across Kashmir.
Reports said all shops and other business establishments remained closed and passenger traffic is off the roads. Attendance in government offices is also very thin.
The shutdown call was issued by Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and JKLF Chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik.
The JRL had urged the people observe shutdown Wednesday and Thursday this week to protest and resist any move to change demographic nature of Jammu and Kashmir by scrapping hereditary state subject law guaranteed under Article 35-A of Indian Constitution.
Article 35-A, which was incorporated in the Constitution by a 1954 Presidential Order, accords special rights and privileges to the citizens of J&K.
Several interlocutory petitions have also been filed in support and against of Article 35-A by various individuals and civil society groups.
