Srinagar/Feb, 10: The Jammu-Srinagar highway continued to remain shut for the fifth consecutive day as landslides on Ramban-Ramsoo track are yet to be cleared for early restoration of the traffic movement on the highway.
Traffic police officials overseeing the movement of the traffic on the highway said ” though snow clearance operation was on Saturday evening completed on Qazigund-Banihal track but the landslides on Ramban-Ramsoo track are yet to be removed completely” adding that ‘traffic on the highway won’t be allowed till the landslides are cleared for the restoration of the smooth movement of the traffic on the highway’
The highway was closed after heavy snowfall and landslides. Ten people were also killed in the area in an avalanche and landslides triggered by heavy snowing for two consecutive days last week.
Shortage of essential commodities in the landlocked Kashmir Valley have sky rocketed the prices of essential as mutton usually sold at Rs 420/per Kg is being sold now on Rs 550/per Kg and chickens price at Rs 120/per Kg are now at Rs170/per Kg.
