Rajouri: Intensifying the drive to check food adulteration and other violations in the district, various teams of Legal Metrology, Food Safety and Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Departments, tehsildars, officers of municipality, health department and police jointly conducted market checking in Sunderbani, Nowshera and Rajouri, Khwas, Thanamndi, Manjakote, Darhal,, Qiladarhal and Teryath and booked erring traders realizing a fine of Rs. 17000 from them.
The team inspected various food establishments including shops of sweets, provisional stores, fruits shops, bakery and fast food units in all the tehsils of the district.
During the drive, erring shopkeepers were booked under different sections as they were found cooking and storing sweets and milk products in unhygienic conditions. The cases were compounded on spot and a fine of Rs 6300 was realized from the defaulter traders in Thanamandi. Besides, Rs. 600 were realized from erring traders in Darhal, Rs. 2400 from erring traders of Manjakote, Rs. 500 from Nowshera, Rs. 2800 from Sunderbani, Rs. 4400 from erring traders of Khawas and Rs. 8200 from erring traders of Rajouri. The teams also destroyed 12 kg of polythene and 70 kg of stale fruits and vegetables during the inspection.
The team asked the shopkeepers to prominently display rate lists, maintain cleanliness in the shops and eating points and ensure that all package commodities sold to the consumers must bear MRP, Package date, Net Content, complete address, and consumer care number and avoid selling of stale fruits and vegetables to the consumers.
Meanwhile, the teams also inspected 11 petrol pumps in the district and checked the measuring cylinders and other equipments used at petrol pumps. They asked the pump owners to ensure drinking water and toilet facilities in their establishments.
