Sopore/Jan 6: A complete shutdown in Sopore on Sunday to pay tributes to 57 civilians on their 26th death anniversary has hit normal life in this North Kashmir’s apple Town.
On this day in 1993 the first troopers of 94 BN BSF had opened fire in Sopore town and killed 57 civilians
The human rights groups active in Kashmir for the last several decades say that soon after the killing of civilians the troopers indulged in arson and set ablaze 400 shops and 75 residential houses from main chowk to tehsil office Sopore.
All shops and other business establishments are shut and traffic is off the roads
Reports said that hundreds of residents offered congregational Fateha for the slain at the mosques in the town.
Members of the civil society and traders gathered at the martyrs’ graveyard and offered special prayers for the slain civilians.
