Be role models, create safe spaces for students: Advisor Ganai to teachers

SRINAGAR: Advisor to the Governor, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai on Sunday asked academics and teaching fraternity to be role models—urging them to create safe spaces for students.

Addressing participants and delegates at two-day Workshop on ‘Training the Trainers’, Ganai said that Jammu and Kashmir is going through difficult times and it is the responsibility of the civil society to help preserve the institutions and guide administration in providing quality education to the children.

Ganai asked teachers to upscale their skills and art of teaching while engaging with the students across the State.

The two-day workshop was organized by Directorate of School Education in collaboration with US based Save the Children.

Director, Department of School Education, Kashmir, Dr Ghulam Nabi Itoo on the occasion said that the ‘Peace Module’ was developed in collaboration Save the Children for students and teachers of the department. He informed that the National Curriculum Framework-2005 has laid emphasis on developing attitude, value and skills among the teachers for organizing activities to nurture of safe environment for the students.

Pertinently, the two-day training was conducted by Associate Professor, Jamia Milia Islamia, Dr Kaushikee. On the occasion, she said that the module would be helpful for the teachers and the student community. She said that such educational modules could also address generational gap, social and family conflicts, economic challenges. She said that Jammu and Kashmir government could make the module as an inevitable part of the teacher’s education.

Addressing the participants, General Manager, State Program Office, Save the Children, Muhammad Sharif Bhat, in his speech said that the module would be supportive to teachers—urging them to make best use of it. He said that the teachers have direct impact on the psychological behaviour of the children and it was highly needed to train the teachers for such programmes. He urged government and policy makers to take it ahead and revise the existing school practices and teachers programme in order to address vital issues in the schools.
