Virtually pursuing the policy of engineering defections in Kashmir’s mainstream political parties the BJP presently in power at the centre is creating splits in the Peoples’ Democratic Party just to help Sajad Lone headed Peoples’ Conference to make inroads in few pockets in Kashmir valley but fortunately the BJP is hobnobbing with some disgruntled dissidents of PDP already facing the crisis of integrity political acceptability in Kashmir valley. Keeping in view the anti-Kashmiri agenda of the BJP the alliance of any regional party of Kashmir is not going to go well down the throats of people in Kashmir valley and the fall of PDP-BJP coalition midway has already sent out the message that alliance with BJP for any regional political party in Kashmir is not less than a political suicide. While the fact remains that National Conference and PDP won’t boycott the forthcoming assembly and Lok Sabha elections the way they boycotted the municipal and Panchayat elections , the idea of using the electoral space created by the boycott of National Conference and PDP during just concluded municipal and panchayat elections for electoral victories would reduce to just an imagination which will never fructify. Dreams come true once in a blue moon but not every day and same holds good for BJP. Though dissidents of PDP in Baramulla and Kupwara districts of North Kashmir could throw up a challenge to National Conference and PDP in forthcoming Lok Sabha and assembly elections but their increasing proximity with Peoples’ Conference the only ally of BJP in Kashmir has already generated a hate wave against them across Kashmir. Since most of the PDP dissidents increasingly showing tendencies to become part of Sajad Lone headed third front are figuring in the list of bank defaulters and tax evaders, the two largest mainstream parties National Conference (NC) and PDP are unlikely to face irresistible resistance in their pockets of influence in any one of the North Kashmir districts.
The failure PDP-BJP alliance has sent out a message to the people of Jammu that BJP even with the present strength of 25 MLAs won’t become an acceptable ally for either National Conference or PDP in Kashmir valley .
So creating splits in PDP would fail BJP in its endeavours to throw up challenges to National Conference and PDP in North Kashmir districts but instead it would generate a hate wave against both Peoples Conference and as well as the PDP dissidents. The failure PDP-BJP alliance has sent out a message to the people of Jammu that BJP even with the present strength of 25 MLAs won’t become an acceptable ally for either National Conference or PDP in Kashmir valley . The formation of a three party alliance by National Conference, PDP and Congress against the BJP- PC (Peoples’ Conference) combine was sufficient enough to indicate that even bitter political rivals would come together in Kashmir to keep BJP out.
