Srinagar/Nov, 25 : six militants and army man were on Sunday morning killed in a gunfight with the government forces in Kapran area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Army on its twitter handle said said “the gunfight going on in Batagund village since early hours has ended with the killing of six militants and a soldier.”
“Two more militants killed. Total six militants killed. Weapons and war like stores recovered,” army said in thr tweet, adding that a soldier was also killed in the gunfight.
The identity of the slain militants was not immediately known. However, reports said that top commanders were among the slain militants.
The encounter broke out in Batagund at around 1:30 am following a joint operation launched by the police, army and the CRPF.
On November 20, an Army jawan was killed and four terrorists were neutralised in an encounter in Nadigam village of Shopian district.
A youth was injured after being hit by a bullet in ongoing clashes near the site of the gunfight.
Reports said that youth took to streets in Batagund village as soon as the news of gunfight spread in the area adding that ‘ the forces used live ammunition, pellets and tear gas to break up the protests, leaving at least one youth wounded’.
Locals said that the youth, identified as Faizan Ahmad, was rushed to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for treatment. He said that a bullet grazed his head.
