2 militants killed on LoC in Kupwara, operation continues

Srinagar: Government forces on Tuesday foiled an infiltration bid from Pakistan Administered Kashmir (PaK) when they gunned down two militants on Tuesday, official sources said. Meanwhile Police arrested a woman with grenades and ammunition from a vehicle she was travelling in near Rawalpora in the outskirts of Srinagar.
They said troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from PaK in Keran sector in the frontier district of Kupwara. However, when challenged and asked to surrender, militants opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons, they said adding security forces also retaliated ensuing in an encounter.
Two militants were killed in the encounter sof ar, they said adding operation was going on despite snowfall and cold wave conditions.
Additional security forces have also joined the operation from different directions braving adverse weather conditions, they added.
Over 200 militants are waiting across the LoC in launch pads to sneak into this side before the infiltration routes are closed due to heavy snowfall. However, there will be no lowering of guards during the winter, they said. Security forces have already intensified night and patrolling on the LoC to foil any infiltration bids.
Meanwhile Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday said that a woman was arrested from a vehicle she was travelling in as grenades and five rounds of ammunition were recovered from her at Lawaypora in the outskirts of Srinagar city.
On its twitter handle Jammu & Kashmir police Kashmir Zone, spokesman wrote “Huge quantity of #ammunition including grenades and live rounds seized from a vehicle in the #city outskirts. Case registered. One person arrested. Further investigation is going on.
Reports quoting officials said a naka was established at Lawaypora on Srinagar-Baramulla road on specific information about the movement of an Over Ground Worker (OGW) with arms and ammunition into the municipal limits of Srinagar city. Acting on the inputs the police stopped a woman for checking the time she was driving the vehicles and during search 20 grenades and live ammunition in a bag were seized.
The woman was and taken to women’s police station for further investigation, they said adding the vehicle has also been seize.
