A statement issued by police after the killing of the militant said ‘a gunfight d broke out in open field in Handwara near by_Pass after millitants opened fire on a Naka party . When contacted SSP Handwara Ashish Kumar Mishra said’ a militant hurled a grenade when intercepted by a Naka party at Chatipora Handwara and police retaliated with a gunfire. The militant whose identity is yet to be ascertained was killed in the exchange of fire. Searches are continuing in the area”
