Chairman LC visits Zojila, monitors movement of vehicles on Kargil-Srinagar Road

Kargil: Chairman Legislative Council Haji Anayat Ali Friday visited Zojila Pass and personally monitored the movement of vehicles on Kargil Srinagar Road.

Meanwhile, after remaining closed for vehicular traffic since 3rd of November, the highway was reopened Friday after clearance of snow from Zojila.

The Chairman while appreciating the snow clearance team of Project Vijayak for their untiring efforts in the snow clearing operations despite hostile weather conditions announced Rupees 10,000 cash prize in their favour.

Haji Anayat Ali was accompanied by the CouncillorChiktan Mohsin Ali, CouncillorShargole Mohammad Ali, SSP Kargil Dr Vinod Kumar, SDM Drass Pawan Kotwal besides the officers of Civil, Police Administration and Vijayak.

The Chairman directed the concerned to keep their men and machinery in complete readiness near Minamarg, Shaitan Nallah, Zero Point, Captain Morh and other key locations so as to ensure the smooth regulation of traffic on the highway. He also instructed them to spray soil, salt and urea so as to overcome slippery conditions besides to raise passing places to allow vehicles to move without hurdles.

Mechanical Department Kargil has stationed JCB and tippers along with one Recovery as well as dry soil to overcome slippery road conditions so as to ensure passage of traffic on the highway without hurdles.

Around 200 light vehicles and 100 trucks stranded at Minamarg crossed Zojila Friday. Vehicles from Drass and Kargil will be allowed to move towards Srinagar but due to slippery road conditions traffic jams are frequent.

The Chairman said he has taken up the issue of handing over of snow clearance work beyond Zero Point up to Baltal to Project Vijayak of Border Roads Organization and will take the matter once again with the Home Minister and DG BRO.
