Srinagar/Nov,4: The Srinagar-Jammu highway closed by landslides Saturday afternoon was on Sunday afternoon reopened for one-way traffic for light vehicles.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Ramban) Anita Sharma said the 270-km highway, connecting Kashmir with rest of India, was closed for traffic last night after heavy snowfall and multiple landslides rendered it unsafe.
Sharma said that they were trying to clear the highway of stranded passenger vehicles at Ramban and Banihal on priority basis.
Massive landslide had hit the highway at Digdol in Ramban district following which men and machinery were pressed into service.
After hours of restoration work the highway was opened for traffic at 1PM. However, authorities said that they will clear the stranded vehicles first.
